The READI short course, Actuarial Mathematics I, was delivered by Professor David Landriault in Bogor, Indonesia between January 16 and 21, 2017. This course is one of a series of short courses aiming to strengthened the capacity of actuarial science and risk management teaching processionals in Indonesia.
Course Actuarial Mathematics I is designed to relate to one of the Actuarial Mathematics exam (A60) held by the Society of Actuaries of Indonesia (PAI).This short course gave the participants a general overview of the life insurance market as well as an understanding of the policy valuation of traditional life insurance. It also provided the participants with a technical foundation to analyze survival models and life tables.
A pre-test process was initiated to allow the participants to gain some understanding of the level of the materials delivered by David. A former student of the Master of Actuarial Science (MActSc) program from the University of Waterloo, Giovani Gracianti, acted as a teaching assistant to provide both translation and instructional support.
32 participants attended the short course including 16 female and 16 male. The participants are either lectures from the partner universities or working in the government agency.The participants of the course enjoyed doing the complementary practical examples which helped them understand the lectures better. They were focused and engaged in class and able to follow the lectures quite well.
