Dr. Rooney worked with Dr. David Schindler to co-author this opinion piece in the Edmonton Journal, calling on the government to work with Indigenous partners to meet our conservation targets and protect biodiversity in Canada. Read more here.
This comes hot on the heals of this cool paper led by Dr. Rich Schuster, which determined that Indigenous managed lands in Canada, Brazil, and Australia supported biodiversity equal to or greater than protected parks.
The Op-Ed also referenced this letter, signed by >30 prominent scientists, calling on Environment Minister McKenna to do more to meet our international commitments under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity.
