Just returned from sampling two dozen wetlands in Alberta. We looked at the plant communities and soil properties of agriculturally impacted and restored wetlands in Parkland and Prairie Natural Regions. It was especially neat to get to visit and sample at the Kinsella and Mattheis research ranches, operated by the University of Alberta.
Renovations on lab and office space commence. Exciting times, full of potential!
Our proposal to Alberta Innovates – Energy and Environment Solutions to develop indicators of wetland and ecohydrologic network integrity in light of a changing climate passed the expression of intent stage. Our team is now busy constructing a full proposal – due February 15th, 2013.
Our paper in CJFAS on the pan-Canadian distribution of toxic microcystins and their relationship to nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations was just recognized as that journal’s most read paper of 2012.
Dr. Rooney just arrived and is settling into her interim office space.
