Sagittarius A*

Diagram of a black hole

Sagittarius A* is the super massive black hole at the center of our galaxy - the Milky Way. Our wall display explains, in comic form, the eight simple steps to capture an image of this phenomenon.

Dr. Avery Broderick, a professor here in the department of Physics and Astronomy, contributed to the science by being the first to propose imaging M87*. He was also among the first to show theoretical polarization images of Sagittarius A*. We wanted to celebrate Dr. Broderick's contributions to Science by displaying this amazing image.

The image and text were provided by and supported by the Department of Physics & Astronomy, the Perimeter Institute and Dr. Avery Broderick. The illustrations were designed by alumni Pluto Jiang.

We welcome you to visit the wall display in theĀ Science Teaching Complex (STC), room 1816, located on the University of Waterloo main campus.
