Ian Search is a third year Planning student at the University of Waterloo and made contributions to the NEST Network during his second work term from January to May 2017. He completed a literature review paper which explored various public engagement strategies that energy infrastructure proponents can implement during the planning process. The paper analysed case studies of different energy infrastructure types such as wind energy, CCS, and transmission lines. General strategies were identified across types that are applicable to all energy infrastructure proponents. In addition, he created a communication piece and op-ed that concisely summarized his paper. Ian is currently pursuing a land use specialization in the Planning program and will be working for the City of Guelph in September 2017.
