Completing a next-generation data infrastructure project to facilitate planning and decision-making on graduate student financial support

Data governance structures and practices require refinement and adjustment to allow for the management and utilization of an integrated central data repository. This repository will allow the University to answer the strategic questions facing the University today and that will arise in the future. Improvements to the institutional data governance structure, policies, and data management guidelines were initiated in 2021 and an initial next-generation collaborative data project is underway. This project, with input and support from faculties and academic support units, will develop data infrastructure solutions to facilitate evidenced-based planning and decisions related to graduate student financial support. Project requirements have been finalized as a precursor to developing a technical solution. This is one example of work required to develop more rigorous and cross-functional approaches to standardizing, managing, and utilizing data for institution-wide purposes.

Moving forward: In the coming year, stakeholders will develop and implement a technical solution for this project and the data generated will be used to inform strategic decisions on graduate enrolment management. The work to create this approach and benefits will be reviewed for application to other data infrastructure development efforts
