Since we launched the Waterloo at 100 vision, we have made progress on some key initiatives.
Evolving our values
To support the change we need to realize our vision for Waterloo at 100, we started by revisiting our values to catalyze a culture shift to work more nimbly and collaboratively.
In 2024, we launched Waterloo’s new institutional values: Think differently. Act with purpose. Work together.
The Values team is now working on an integration plan to help translate and embed the values into everyday practice to shape our institutional culture.

Aligning to our Global Futures
We launched the Global Futures Networks to facilitate connections between people, ideas, and resources across the University of Waterloo to advance the Global Futures through initiatives spanning education, research, and service.
The Global Futures Fund will catalyze and support a wide range of initiatives that advance the vision of Global Futures through collaboration across various campus units and external resources. Competitive funding will provide the opportunity to conduct impactful activities that address and anticipate our world's most pressing challenges.
The pilot program, Global Futures Fund 1.0, is currently underway, with funding for the first set of initiatives starting in September 2025. The call for Global Futures Fund 2.0 will be released in Fall 2025.
Our planning and performance
To keep us on track we will set ourselves short-term priorities against this long-term vision. New performance indicators will be set, aligned to our vision and aligned to our Waterloo at 100 goals.
Annual integrated planning and rolling multi-year budgeting will enable us to be more agile and collaborative across portfolios. This step towards more transparent and integrated planning is a key enabler to everything else in Waterloo at 100.
