The SAIL (Student Art Innovation Lab) vintage airstream and its free art programming are featured in an article in The Record:
Since 2017, UW's fine arts department has used the refurbished 1975 trailer to offer free outreach arts programming to the larger community as well as to showcase art by students from the university.
The hollowed out 30-foot Airstream has been motored to Waterloo's Grand Porch Party, the Cherry Festival, the Idea Exchange, Waterloo's campfire events, the Summer Lights Festival, the K-W Multicultural Festival, True North, Neighbours Day and more.
At many of these events, free arts programming is offered in the lab. Members of the community are invited to make felt flags, use indigo dye on fabric, and make puppets, musical instruments or other interesting pieces.
