In spring 2024, students looking for immigration services, international student programs and supports, intercultural skills training or opportunities to study abroad will have a new office ready to meet their needs.
The International Experience Centre (IEC) will bring existing services currently offered through the Student Success Office (SSO) to a more centralized location in Needles Hall (NH), across from The Centre.
In addition to free immigration consulting appointments, the IEC will offer in-person student events, exchange and study abroad information sessions and more in a new Global Lounge.
With IEC’s proximity to The Centre, AccessAbility Services and Counselling Services, the move further cements NH as a hub for student support.
“We are thrilled to be part of the University’s long-term vision of strengthening diverse communities through increasing the visibility and uptake of international services and opportunities,” said Pam Charbonneau, director of the Student Success Office. “Waterloo’s investment in spaces like the IEC demonstrates the significant value international and intercultural experiences bring to our campus."
The SSO will continue to deliver the student-driven resources campus has come to rely on, including new student transition programming, learning supports and leadership development programs. “Moving international-focused services to their own space allows us to revisit the SSO’s strategic goal of creating a culture of student success at Waterloo and evaluate our offerings” shared Heather Westmorland, associate director, Student Success Office.
