VLR Workshop - Taking Stock and Building Momentum

Tuesday, October 27, 2020

The Sustainable Development Solution Network (SDSN) Canada and Green Beacon together with convening support from Waterloo Global Science Initiative (WGSI) hosted an online workshop on October 15, 2020 on Voluntary Local Reviews: Taking Stock and Building Momentum. Voluntary Local Reviews (VLRs) are a process by which municipal and regional governments are starting to report on their progress on Agenda 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). While this process emerged before the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic havoc, VLRs are an important tool for addressing the deep systemic inequities that the pandemic has exposed.

This interactive workshop brought together the VLR community in Canada to learn from each other through panel discussions and small group breakout sessions where information, ideas, and resources were shared. The workshop aimed to deepen the VLR community and begin to establish a VLR learning community. Participants discussed ways of connecting in order to grow the network and agreed to keep the conversation going, establish networks, share resources, successes and failures in order to help facilitate the localization of the SDGs in Canada.
