The Dining Room by A.R. Gurney, Jr. is a play set in the dining room of a well-to-do household, the place where the family assembles for breakfast or dinner or any or all special occasions. The action, comprising of a wide variety of interrelated scenes, creates a portrait of a vanishing culture and species, the upper middle class WASP.
The actors changed roles many times to portray characters ranging from young children to elderly grandparents. Each scene is a dramatic sketch introducing a distinct relationship or situation.
The play was a senior acting class production, under the direction of Joel Greenberg. The class, that consisted of eight cast members, was responsible for most of the production duties, such as props, costumes, sound, publicity, program design and stage management.
