Fashion denotes status and popularity, and differentiates different groups. It is a tool for capturing attention and upholding the unspoken rules about what matches and is appropriate to wear.

Fashion trends in 2017 for teen girls include: chokers, ripped jeans, jean jackets, crop tops, flats, ankle boots, low-top sneakers, knit fall sweaters, high-waisted skirts. Hair styles include: half updo with a bun, messy bun or hair down either straight or curly.

Fashion trends in 2017 for teen boys include: dark jeans, solid colour t-shirts (either V-neck or curved neck), plaid shirts, beanies. Fashion trends for teens boys are less prominent and less detrimental on popularity than for teens girls.
