Project description
With current virtual environments (VE) technology users often complain of disorientation within complex environments. There is a need to extend the current scientific knowledge base in terms of effective techniques for improving navigation, orientation, and training within VEs.
The envisioned technological solution (VTrail software) will provide ways to mark and configure desirable routes for trainees to follow within the VE training environment, so as to maximize learning of the intended task or route, and minimize disorientation and simulator sickness. A trainee will also be able to lay down trailblazing markers on a training mission, and then use those markers to orient himself within the environment. This solution will serve as a software overlay to be used with an existing virtual environment system.
