Hamza Tariq

Hamza is a PhD candidate in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Waterloo. His research explores how people judge human versus algorithmic mistakes, and how they interpret variability and correlated errors in estimates. He has consulted with local organizations such as the Food Bank of Waterloo Region, and has experience in program evaluation, behavioural data analysis, and making practical, client-focused recommendations.


Dogukan Demircioglu

Dogukan Demircioglu headshot

Dogukan is a PhD candidate in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Waterloo. His background also includes cognitive science and philosophy. His research centres around forecasted emotions, forecasted cognition, motivated reasoning, and decision-making under uncertainty, with a specific focus on understanding the psychological mechanisms behind people’s economic preferences. He has also served in roles as a consultant and data analyst. 


Julianna Salvatierra

Julianna is a PhD candidate specializing in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Waterloo with a strong focus on understanding how people learn, think, and make decisions. Her research explores how people make judgements based on the ease of processing information and examining evidence-based strategies to improve educational outcomes. She brings academic rigor and practical insight to her consulting work, helping faculty members and industry partners to enhance learning environments and optimize user experience.


Odin Fisher-Skau

Odin is a graduate student in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Waterloo, where he studies judgement and decision-making. Specifically, his research concerns cognitive-behavioural biases in prediction markets. Through his studies, he has also developed proficiency with a variety statistical analysis and machine learning techniques.


Sam Johnson

Faculty Advisor

Sam is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Waterloo. He directs the Decision, Inference, and Cognitive Economics (DICE) Lab, which works at the intersection of cognitive science and behavioural science. The lab use experiments and modelling to understand both basic cognitive mechanisms underpinning thought and choice, as well as how these mechanisms scale up into social interactions and institutions like markets and governments.
