March is Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning (CEWIL) Canada National Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) month. As an opportunity to celebrate and generate awareness of co-op and other WIL programs across Canada, the Work-Learn Institute (WxL) is reflecting on the contributions co-op students have made to the Work-Learn team and WIL research.

Our latest publication on remote work-integrated learning experiences from the student perspective is highlighted in Waterloo Stories. Conducted by Work-Learn Institute's team of researchers Judene Pretti, Brittany Etmanski and Amie Durston, the study identifies three important factors that affect a student's remote work experience: socialization, productivity and meaningful work.

Work-Learn Institute director Judene Pretti will be introducing the Future Ready Talent Framework at the upcoming Developing Future Ready Students learning series presented by InnovatED. The series brings together a group of educational thought leaders from across Ontario to highlight innovative approaches to teaching and learning that prepare students to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Relive last week's Work-Learn Institute launch and the Future of Work and Talent Pipeline Webinar event! Whether you joined us live or could not make it on September 17, find the live recording, webinar slides, discussion recap and takeaways and the Future of Work White Paper on the new webinar for employers page.

Work-Learn Institute's director Judene Pretti was featured in a recent article by HRD Magazine discussing the impact of COVID-19 on recruitment.

“I think COVID has given us the opportunity to challenge assumptions about the way we work and how employees and organizations adapt to change,” she explained. “While it hasn’t been an easy transition for most, it is remarkable to look at the ways that work has changed in the past five months and what we have learned along the way."

Join us for a webinar co-hosted with HRD Magazine on the future of work and your talent pipeline as we launch the University of Waterloo’s Work-Learn Institute on September 17. Webinar speakers include Judene Pretti (Director, Work-Learn Institute), Norah McRae (Associate Provost, Co-operative and Experiential Education) and University of Waterloo graduates.

Work-Learn Institute director Judene Pretti was recently awarded the Ralph W. Tyler Award by the Co-operative Education and Internship Association (CEIA) for her distinguished work in leading co-operative education and work-integrated learning research to enhance knowledge and practices in the field of experiential learning.
