Electrical and computer engineering professor, En-Hui Yang receives IEEE Eric E. Sumner Award

En-Hui Yang
En-Hui Yang, a professor in electrical and computer engineering was made recipient of the prestigious 2021 IEEE Eric E. Sumner Award for his outstanding contributions to the theory and practice of source coding.

Professor Yang is the founding director of the Leitch-University of Waterloo Multimedia Communications lab. He is also the co-founder of SlipStream Data Inc. (now a subsidiary of BlackBerry Inc. formerly known as Research In Motion), and a past associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Information Theory. Professor Yang holds a Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Information Theory and Multimedia Data Compression.

The IEEE Eric E. Sumner Award was established by the IEEE Board of Directors in 1995, and was named in honor of 1991 IEEE President Eric E. Sumner, who retired as Vice President, Operations Planning, AT&T Bell Laboratories after a long and distinguished career.
