The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a tenure-track position in the areas of Process Systems Engineering research including: process design and intensification, control,  optimization and development of machine learning algorithms for chemical and biological processes.  It is anticipated that the position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, however, Associate or Full Professor rank will be considered in exceptional circumstances. The anticipated start date for this position is September 1, 2019.

Applicants must have a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field.  All applicants must demonstrate excellent research potential as well as strong interest and ability in undergraduate and graduate teaching. The Department of Chemical Engineering offers a collegial, interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment. With 34 faculty members and a annual enrolment of 550 undergraduate and over 200 graduate students, it is one of the largest Chemical Engineering departments in Canada. The department is benefiting from its new home, a 115,000 square-foot building with 48 state-of-the-art research labs and new instructional spaces. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Engineering Hydrology with an estimated start date of May 1, 2019. In the case of an exceptional candidate, an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor will be considered.

Applicants should have expertise in urban hydrology and climate resiliency, statistical/stochastic hydrology, application of remote sensing, atmospheric processes, and/or other related and emerging research areas in the field of engineering hydrology. Preference will be given to candidates who will combine excellence in teaching with a demonstrated capacity to conduct novel, interdisciplinary research that will expand and complement our current departmental research strengths.

Applicants must have potential or proven ability to develop an internationally recognized research program, must have excellent communication skills, and must have a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels. In particular, the successful applicant must have a strong interest in impactful teaching methods and curriculum development to support our undergraduate civil, environmental, architectural, and geological engineering programs. The ideal applicant should expect to work with government and industrial partners and generate collaborative research funding to lead a successful research program.

Desirable applicants may be conducting specialized, fundamental research in related areas, such as thermodynamics, acoustics, ergonomics, or air quality, or more generalized, applied research in areas such as low carbon building envelopes and systems, building information modelling (BIM), optimization of energy usage in building applications, or heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

An ability to teach architectural engineering courses in building science or building systems design is required. The Departments of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering (MME) and Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Waterloo invite applications for one, joint Faculty position at the rank of Lecturer with an anticipated start date of May 1, 2019.

The successful applicant must have an engineering degree at the master’s level or higher and an academic and/or professional background in the area of building systems design. Applicants are expected to have engineering licenses for practice in Canada or the ability to apply for an engineering license with the Professional Engineers of Ontario within 3 years. Applicants must also have demonstrated an interest in engineering education pedagogy. While the initial appointment is for a three-year definite term Lecturer, with the possibility of a renewal for another three, the appointed Lecturer may be considered for an on-going appointment thereafter as a joint Continuing Lecturer between MME and CEE if outstanding performance in teaching and service is demonstrated.

All applicants must have a proven ability or excellent potential for outstanding teaching in building systems design, have strong communication skills and be committed to professional development and community building. 2. Urban water security. This position will focus on urban surface and groundwater management and resilience, bringing together science, technology, and governance to understand, project and address water security challenges and opportunities in a rapidly urbanizing world.
3. Socio-hydrology. This position will focus on the societal value of water and the integrated analysis and modelling of the socio-economic, institutional and cultural determinants of water usage and water resources management, in support of innovative water governance systems.
    

These positions are expected to be filled at the Full Professor level.
