Scholarships and awards

There are many sources of financial support for Waterloo Engineering students.

Scholarships are based on academic excellence and academic contributions. Awards are based on financial need and other criteria such as leadership, community service, and academic excellence.

Example scholarships & awards for current students

President's Research Award

The President's Research Award is available to eligible full-time undergraduate students who were recipients of the President’s Scholarship of Distinction and are interested in pursuing an on-campus research experience, under the supervision of a University of Waterloo researcher.

Sandford Fleming Foundation Memorial Leadership Award

The Memorial Leadership Award is granted to an intermediate-level undergraduate student in the Faculty of Engineering who has demonstrated outstanding contributions to the faculty in the promotion of extra-curricular activities.

Karen Mark Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded annually to a female third-year undergraduate Engineering student based on excellent academic achievement and demonstrated involvement in and contribution to student life at the University of Waterloo.

Pearl Sullivan Emerging Global Leaders Award

Awarded to a graduating student in the Faculty of Engineering who, during their time at Waterloo, has improved the campus community, exemplifies strong leadership and engineering excellence, and plans to tackle some of humanity’s most pressing challenges on an international scale.  

Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation for Education Gold Medal

An engraved medal will be awarded annually to a fourth-year undergraduate student graduating from an accredited Engineering program who has the highest cumulative overall average upon graduation.

Sandford Fleming Foundation Awards

The Sandford Fleming Foundation has established several awards for graduating students, including awards for leadership, academic excellence, communication and co-operative proficiency.

Albert Sherwood Barber Award

Presented annually to the student graduating with the most outstanding performance in the co-operative education aspects of the undergraduate Engineering program.
