Dr. Aarsha Surendren is a Mitacs Accelerate Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo under the supervision of Professor Tizazu Mekonnen. She earned her Ph.D. in biological engineering from the University of Guelph under the supervision of Professor Amar Mohanty and Professor Manjusri Misra, where her research focused on thermoplastic starch-based polymer blends, biodegradable composites, and sustainable packaging materials. Her current research, in collaboration with industry partners Oligomaster and Kuriyama, focuses on developing sustainable polymer technologies for industrial applications, including recycling polyethylene (PE) and poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) production waste into value-added products and developing thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) and polyethylene (PE)-based foams with thermal insulation performance comparable to conventional foams. Her broader research interests include polymer processing, polymer recycling, polymer foaming, sustainable materials, advanced polymer composites, biodegradation and composting studies, nanomaterials, and packaging technologies, with a focus on translating innovative materials into scalable industrial solutions.

Hossein Mashhadimoslem is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Hossein focuses on advanced material discovery using artificial intelligent (AI). Hossein’s educational journey began with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, followed by an MSc and PhD in chemical engineering from IUST, and visiting scholar at the University of Waterloo, Canada. He has more than a decade of experience in engineering design for industrial energy megaprojects. His research interests include advanced materials design using AI, adsorption processes, CO2 capture and conversion, battery material design, and AI for science.
Currently he focuses on advanced material discovery using AI and computational methods for batteries and energy applications.

Mukarram Ali is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada, working in the 2D Materials and Electrochemical Devices Laboratory under the supervision of Professor Michael Pope. Dr. Ali’s research focuses on advanced rechargeable battery technologies, particularly sulfide-based solid-state, lithium-silicon, and lithium-sulfur batteries. He designs and synthesizes solid electrolytes, engineer's electrode-electrolyte interfaces, and evaluates electrochemical performance using techniques such as impedance spectroscopy, galvanostatic cycling, critical current density measurements, and symmetric-cell testing. His work also involves materials characterization using XRD, SEM, EDS, XPS, and thermal analysis. In addition, Dr. Ali contributes to research at the Ontario Battery and Electrochemistry Research Centre, where he supports lithium-ion pouch-cell development, battery safety evaluation, experimental design, and collaborative projects with academic and industrial partners. His broader objective is to advance practical, high-energy, and safer battery technologies for future energy storage applications in diverse practical settings.

Research: My research interests lie broadly at the intersection of algebraic and coding-theoretic techniques of cryptography. At present, my main focus is on zero-knowledge proof-based post-quantum cryptographic primitives, with particular emphasis on developing efficient algorithmic techniques for accelerating post-quantum secure zkSNARKs. In addition, my research encompasses the systematic design and theoretical analysis of MDS and near-MDS matrices in symmetric-key cryptography, along with related algebraic structures and their cryptanalytic implications.

Project: High-fidelity AI-supported micromechanics tools for sheet-moulding-compound
(SMC) composites.
Within the Composites Research Group at the University of Waterloo, my research focuses on the characterization and analytical modelling of advanced composite materials for lightweight automotive applications. I investigate the mechanical behaviour of sheet moulding compound (SMC) composites through strain-rate-dependent testing and advanced full-field measurement techniques, including high-speed digital image correlation (DIC). By combining experimental characterization with micromechanics-based analytical models, I develop predictive tools to better understand the deformation and fracture behaviour of short fibre-reinforced composites under complex loading conditions. My research aims to support the design and optimization of lightweight composite structures for next-generation automotive applications.

Masoud Karimi is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Arami Research Lab in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. His research focuses on robot learning, with an emphasis on vision-language-action (VLA) models and world models for robotic manipulation and control. He is particularly interested in how robots can learn generalizable skills from demonstrations and interaction, and how world models can enable robots to predict, plan, and act in complex environments. His broader interests include reinforcement learning, imitation learning, and human-robot interaction for assistive robotics.

Dr. Mohammad Shojaee is a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Centre for Advanced Materials Joining at the University of Waterloo. His research focuses on metallic materials joining, welding metallurgy, materials characterization, and the mechanical performance of welded structures. He has particular expertise in the welding and joining of advanced automotive steels using processes such as resistance spot welding and gas metal arc welding. His work includes investigating weld microstructure and properties, failure mechanisms, liquid metal embrittlement, joint strength, and the development of experimental methods and failure criteria for evaluating welded components. His broader expertise encompasses materials science, physical metallurgy, mechanical testing, fracture and failure analysis, and advanced characterization techniques.
