Description:
The marble is launched upward, traveling at the same translational velocity as the car. When done correctly, the marble will land in the car.
Push the floor of the marble hole down. A hole in a pin is exposed on the bottom of the car. Insert the nail on the end of the string just enough to told the pin down.
There is a trick in getting this car to work properly. The car must be moving with constant velocity before the pin is pulled to launch the marble. At slow velocities, give the string a tug to remove the pin. This is not necessary at higher speeds because the car separates from the string without too much trouble.
It is strongly recommended that this demonstration be practiced before it is done in class.
