PLAN 720 Class Visits Kitchener's Southern Terminus Via ION LRT

On Tuesday, February 6th, Dr. Katherine Perrott and her PLAN 720 class took the ION LRT down to Kitchener’s southern terminus. This area is largely characterized by car-oriented suburban retail and is a perfect opportunity to learn about the challenges of planning for transit-oriented densification.  The field trip set the stage for the policy research recommendations that students will produce this semester to inform the next stage of the City of Kitchener’s Growing Together project.

Our students were joined by both Dr. Brian Doucet of the School of Planning to discuss his research related to housing and transit, and the City of Kitchener’s Senior Urban Designer Adam Clark, who shared his expertise and insights along the route.

The contributions of our community partners play an important role in extending the learning experiences of our students beyond the classroom and connecting them to policy changes and developments underway in our local communities.
