Throughout the pandemic, students in the WatSolve Consulting Group have continued to provide support for small science companies to find their niche in the market, through management consulting. The University of Waterloo is well known for its experiential learning experiences, and the Science and Business program is no exception.

The Faculty of Science is pleased to announce that Professor Okey Igboeli will be our next Director in the Science and Business Program, effective July 1, 2021.

WatSolve provides consulting services to STEM businesses of all sizes. Since 2017, WatSolve has worked with 22 clients and has completed over 50 deliverables! Project deliverables included financial audits, market research, customer segmentation, and plenty more. 

The implementation of a blockchain-based system may resolve many of the challenges facing current electronic medical records for British Columbia patients. 

By integrating a blockchain encryption method that works with the current electronic medical record options already being used, patient information could be securely and efficiently passed between healthcare providers, without the need for paper records or faxes, according to researchers from the University of Waterloo. 

WatSolve held a LinkedIn Learning Workshop for Waterloo students this past January. The professional development workshop was hosted in partnership with CECA.

Together, the University of Waterloo’s Science Society, Science departmental clubs and the Psychology Society donated $5,500 to help the local community fight COVID-19. The donation came from unused event funds and was shared among three organizations.

Walking the streets of Jerusalem, swimming in the Dead Sea, and visiting the Holocaust memorial museum Yad Vashem are not the typical types of experiences that come to mind when imagining an undergraduate business class. Yet these are some of the highlights of the new SCI 230 class offered through the Faculty of Science.

Kashif Memom, Academic Advisor, Science and Business was recently honoured at the Volunteer Action Centre's 14th annual Volunteer Impact Awards celebration for his mentorship and his community involvement. The citation reads "A highly respected advisor and lecturer in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo, Kashif has impacted the lives of approximately 3000 students since 2005," says the award citation. "Receiving numerous awards for teaching and mentorship, he has achieved highest coop placement and highest employment levels among programs in his faculty.

The Science and Business community would like to congratulate our very own Dr. Kashif Memon for receiving his PhD in Education from the University of Western Ontario.
