Bringing UWaterloo to the world
Thanks in large part to our co-op program and the efforts of our alumni and researchers, the University of Waterloo has a strong reputation as a global research-intensive university, renowned for entrepreneurship, innovation and experiential education.
This reputation helps UWaterloo create partnerships that provide diverse perspectives, expertise and resources, enhancing our academic and research programs, helping us prepare the next generation of problem-solvers, and creating positive impact around the world.
Later this month, I’ll be part of a delegation visiting alumni, students and friends in Hong Kong and Tokyo who play an important role as ambassadors for the University in their communities. Highlights of the trip will include the Hong Kong Alumni Chapter Dinner, where we’ll celebrate the legacy of Dominic Barton, who has been a tireless advocate for UWaterloo during his tenure as our University’s chancellor. (We’ll also be recognizing Dominic at a gala event in April.) I’m also looking forward to hearing the discussion after dinner between Chancellor Barton and Kenny Lam, CEO of Two Sigma Asia Pacific, about talent, the global economy and the future of innovation.
At the end of February, I’ll travel with other University leaders to San Francisco for the Times Higher Ed Digital Health 2024 Conference. Hosted in partnership with Stanford University, the conference brings together senior leaders from across digital health, including industry, academia, government and regulators to identify how these sectors can collaborate to develop effective solutions at scale. What’s even more exciting? UWaterloo will host this global event in 2025, allowing us to showcase the talent that makes us Canada’s most innovative university.
There are amazing times ahead for UWaterloo and I’m deeply grateful to all of you who champion our University. Together we are blazing new roads toward a bold future for our students, our communities and our world.
