Why work in Advancement?

Ready to build the future? In Waterloo Advancement, we’re looking for talented people to help prepare tomorrow’s problem-solvers while promoting social, environmental and technological innovation. You’ll work in a friendly, supportive environment with ample opportunity to learn and grow.

Impact

As a member of Advancement, you’ll support the University’s mission to solve the complex challenges facing humanity and our planet. Through the mutually beneficial relationships with alumni and donors that you help build, you’ll generate support for student development, leading-edge research, technological breakthroughs and more. You’ll help to create a healthier, more sustainable and more equitable future, here in our community and around the world.

Professional development

Advancement is committed to maximizing learning opportunities for staff. Every year, you are entitled to take up to five working days (or an equivalent number of hours) for career and professional development.

We offer in-house training sessions in addition to those offered by professional associations. You’re also encouraged to attend the annual staff conference.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

The University of Waterloo is committed to being a welcoming and inclusive community for all. The Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism (EDI-RO), working with faculty, staff and students, strive to lead efforts towards transformative culture change, disrupt oppressive systems, dismantle institutional barriers and embed anti-racism and equity in policies, processes, environments and experiences on campus

Waterloo benefits

The University offers a robust benefits package for permanent staff, including comprehensive health and dental coverage for you and your eligible dependents, life insurance, tuition, retiree benefits and more.

Depending on contract length, temporary staff may also be eligible for extended health care, life insurance and other benefits.

Work-life balance

Advancement encourages employees to prioritize their social, emotional, spiritual, physical and psychological health. Waterloo’s Disconnecting from Work guideline outlines how the University and Advancement will support you in balancing your work and personal life. In addition, Advancement follows the University’s guidelines, which provide flexibility for staff to adjust their work location or hours.

Award-winning team

We are proud to have earned national and international awards recognizing excellence in all facets of advancement. You’ll be encouraged and supported to submit your best work to these awards programs, which provide a great opportunity to have your creativity, hard work and strategic planning celebrated, while bolstering Waterloo’s reputation for innovation and action.
