Inspiring inclusion this International Women's Day
International Women's Day (IWD) on March 8 is a global celebration of women's social, economic, cultural and political achievements. The day also brings attention to various issues affecting millions of women worldwide, including gender-based discrimination, violence and inequality. It’s a moment to recognize how far we’ve come while acknowledging the work we still need to do to achieve full inclusivity and empowerment.
At the University of Waterloo, we’re fortunate to have many inspiring women among our University of Waterloo Alumni, faculty, staff and students. On International Women's Day, we recognize their contributions to academia, research and beyond through a series of events and initiatives. The Faculty of Science’s High Tea Social has become a much-anticipated annual event and this year, the University’s IWD networking breakfast sold out quickly. However, there’s still an opportunity to watch the livestream of this community event, where President Vivek Goel, alum Jennifer Lee (BA ’00), Vice-Chairwoman of Deloitte, and women leaders from across campus will speak. I hope you can join us online for this celebration.
At UWaterloo, we know that to build a prosperous, vibrant future we need to ensure that women from all backgrounds can contribute, thrive and succeed. Through education, advocacy and the support of our University community, we’re continuing to work toward a more inclusive environment where everyone can excel.
