Alumni group poses at an event in Miami

Alumni leaders in Miami’s technology sector gathered for a special event

On October 12, alumni entrepreneurs and business leaders gathered in Miami to learn about the future of the technology sector and how the University of Waterloo’s strategic vision could play a role. The event featured opening remarks from Vivek Goel, president and vice-chancellor, highlighting the Waterloo at 100 vision and the future we imagine for humanity and the planet. His remarks were followed by a fireside chat between Dr. Jagdeep Singh Bachher (BASc ’93, MASc ’94, PhD ’00), chief investment officer and vice-president of investments at the University of California, and Orlando Bravo, private equity investor and founder/managing partner of Thoma Bravo.

The pair discussed the future of software and technology, entrepreneurship, and the power of community. They emphasized the importance of choosing the right people to work with, how thinking differently requires diverse voices and building corporate culture. They also encouraged attendees to consider philanthropic and volunteer opportunities, considering their competencies to ensure a greater impact.

The intimate event offered a unique opportunity for alumni to meet with others in their local network, reconnect with UWaterloo’s community and consider how giving back to the University could help to improve life for future generations of students.
