Cobionix, a Waterloo-founded autonomous medical robotics company, has secured $3 million in strategic funding from TitletownTech, a venture firm backed by Microsoft and the Green Bay Packers. The funding will accelerate clinical pilots and deployments of CODI®, Cobionix’s collaborative robot designed for tele-assisted ultrasound procedures. CODI® aims to address healthcare labour shortages and improve access in remote and underserved communities. Co-founders Nima Zamani, Dr. Tim Lasswell, and John Van Leeuwen developed the robot to enhance patient experience and reduce burdens on healthcare workers. With support from the University of Waterloo and Velocity, Cobionix is now conducting trials in Canada and expanding to the U.S. and U.K. The company also plans to integrate AI for fully autonomous procedures and expand CODI®'s clinical applications to deliver high-quality care more efficiently.
