Award-winning employers benefit from innovative Waterloo co-op students
The University of Waterloo’s Co-operative and Experiential Education team announced and celebrated the 2023 Employer Impact Award recipients at a virtual ceremony

On October 9, 2024, the University of Waterloo's Co-operative and Experiential Education (CEE) recognized outstanding co-op employers during its fifth annual awards ceremony, celebrating their contributions in six categories. These employers provided students with valuable, real-world experiences while benefiting from Waterloo's co-op talent pool.
In 2023, Employer Impact Award recipients utilized students' skills to advance AI research, explore disease cures, plan for sustainability, and more. The winners were:
- Innovation Impact: ATS Corporation
- Sustainability Impact: Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP)
- Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Impact: Canadian Tire Corporation
- International Experience Impact: Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)
- Student Experience Impact: Region of Waterloo Waste Management Division
- Research Impact: University Health Network (UHN) – Notta Lab
Associate provost Norah McRae praised the employers for offering students opportunities to address real-world challenges while preparing them for future careers. Over 26,000 co-op students benefit from work-integrated learning opportunities with more than 8,000 employers across 75 countries, leveraging the world's largest co-op talent pool.
