Waterloo’s partnership with Princess Margaret Cancer Centre aims to enhance cancer research and tackle urgent health care challenges

Cancer is the leading cause of death in Canada, and more than 100 types are diagnosed annually. The University of Waterloo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (PM) to collaborate on advancing cancer research. This partnership aims to leverage Waterloo's expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and machine learning to drive innovation in cancer care.
Dr. Vivek Goel, president of Waterloo, emphasized the importance of this agreement for improving health outcomes through technology and collaboration. The MOU fosters joint AI-driven research on disease detection, treatment, and personalized care, combining Waterloo's technological expertise with PM's oncology knowledge.
Dr. Keith Stewart, highlighted past successes using AI for radiation therapy and patient matching, underscoring the partnership's potential to reshape cancer care. Future educational opportunities for students, collaborative scholarships, and AI applications in health care will further strengthen this initiative. Both institutions are committed to groundbreaking innovations that will enhance cancer treatment and improve patient experiences.
