University of Waterloo alum Rachel Bartholomew (MBET ’14), founder of Hyivy Health, returned as a collaborator for Velocity and FemTech Canada’s Innovation Challenge. The event gathered over 100 students to develop solutions in women’s health, focusing on menopause, gynecological, and breast health. Teams participated in workshops and mentorship sessions, culminating in a pitch event judged by health professionals.
The Biomedical Engineering team behind PeriGuard won $4,000 for their childbirth device designed to prevent perineal tearing with controlled heat. The Miora team earned the $1,000 runner-up prize for their AI-driven smart mirror that helps women manage cognitive symptoms during menopause.
