Kathy Becker

Specialist, Teaching Assessment Processes

As Teaching Assessment Processes Specialist, Kathy views assessment as an important element in helping instructors (re)discover the JOY in teaching. Her role continues to evolve as each piece of the holistic teaching assessment model is implemented; Kathy works to oversee and strategically integrate teaching assessment information with the people and processes that connect to it. Connect with Kathy if you have questions about teaching assessment processes at Waterloo.

Kathy was the inaugural Teaching Development Associate for the Faculty of Engineering and plays an active role with the University of Waterloo Staff Association, including serving as UWSA President (2020-2021).

Powered by strong connections, an unconventional analytical style, and a wealth of procedural know-how, Kathy helps the Teaching Assessment Processes team make forward progress. When she’s not busy with that, you’ll find Kathy caring for her bees, working on a construction project with her partner, or learning something new.

Kathy is a proud Waterloo Arts grad (BA’99) who went on to complete ESL teacher training at Conestoga and a master’s in educational technology through the University of British Columbia. After several years teaching at Conestoga, at Renison, and in the private education sector, she rejoined Waterloo in 2011.
