In 2024, the Credentials Framework Working Group made a number of recommendations focused on updating the University of Waterloo's framework for academic credentials in ways that will help prepare the governance, administrative, and procedural ground for innovation, experimentation, and evolution in teaching and learning. Recommendations include increasing student flexibility, including (a) a wider range of programs and learning pathways, and (b) reducing barriers into programs offered at Waterloo.
The focus of the Credentials Framework report is on credentials, i.e., a means of certifying that a person has achieved a high degree of knowledge (both conceptual understanding and practical ability in some area, issued by an institution widely recognized and trusted as competent to attest to a learner's achievement.
