Continuing the Soft Launch of PRT at Waterloo through 2026

The Peer Review of Teaching (PRT) soft launch is off to a strong start, and will continue through 2026 with the support of the Provost. Since Winter 2025, over 60 faculty members from 17 Departments/Schools in two Faculties have participated.
Through this process, faculty members are engaging in deeper pedagogical conversations and embracing teaching as a scholarly, collaborative practice. Feedback has also been strongly positive. In post-participation surveys, 100% of Reviewers and Reviewees rated their experience as “good” or “excellent.” Faculty members have described the process as reflective, collegial, and professionally valuable. One participant shared that it helped them “reconnect with the passion I have for teaching” and prompted new ideas for growth. This kind of faculty engagement and reflection is closely linked to more positive student learning outcomes and a more intentional educational experience.

Reviewer training, support from the Teaching Assessment Processes (TAP) office, and the PRT System have all contributed to a smooth experience. Improvements are already underway based on feedback, such as clearer email messaging and system refinements.

The next PRT Reviewer Training will be offered in December; Faculty Teaching Fellows will soon be contacted to help identify faculty members to complete the PRT Training and potentially conduct PRT Reviews in 2026.

Thank you to all who are participating! You are helping to position Waterloo as a leader in holistic teaching assessment.
