Astronomy on Tap is back in KW, so join us to sit back, relax, and learn about the Universe, while also having a couple of drinks and a bit of fun!
This month we're talking about the powerful cosmic events that produce almost all the elements on Earth, from oxygen to gold to uranium. Some of these are created over billions of years by nuclear fusion in the cores of stars, while others can only be made in the hellish conditions present when a star reaches the end of its life.
We'll hear about this from two guest speakers: Ana Ennis, from the Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics, will speak about the death of stars like our Sun, and how these produce the stuff that we are made from! Perimeter Institute researcher Luciano Combi will then share how we can observe and model the deaths of stars, to understand the origin of heavy elements like gold.
