Astronomy on Tap is a series of monthly events that take place in bars and pubs in more than 50 cities worldwide. They are aimed at the general public and consist of accessible, engaging presentations on space and science, designed to share astronomy in a fun, relaxed, informal environment.
As the December nights get longer and darker, we will be talking about dark matter, the mysterious material that makes up more than 80% of all the matter in our Universe. What is it made from? How can we study it? How do we even know that it exists?
This month, we'll hear from two astronomers based in KW who are trying to understand dark matter. Luna Zagorac, from the Perimeter Institute, will talk about a range of hypothetical "astrophysical beasties" that could make up dark matter, and Rashaad Reid from the Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics will share how we can use the Sun as a laboratory to detect dark matter.
