Astronomy on Tap is back in KW, so join us to sit back, relax, and learn about the Universe, while also having a couple of drinks and a bit of fun!

Black holes are one of the strangest predictions of Einstein's theory of General Relativity: regions of the Universe where gravity is so strong that no matter, energy, or light can escape its pull. In 2019, a black hole was photographed for the first time by the Event Horizon Telescope, but there are a lot of mysteries that remain. What is inside a black hole? Where do they lead? And how are they connected to the mysterious physics of the microscopic world?

At Astronomy on Tap this month, two speakers from the University of Waterloo will share their research on black holes. María Rosa Preciado Rivas will speak about the link between black holes and quantum physics, and Conner Dailey will discuss whether sci-fi topics like worm holes, warp drives and faster-than-light travel are grounded in the real physics of black holes...
