Weekly Blog Update: Enhancing Access Control for Request Types in Your Service Project
In your company-managed service project, certain request types may need to be exclusive to specific individuals, such as managers, particular teams, or those handling sensitive information. Ensuring that only authorized personnel can raise these requests is crucial for maintaining order and security.
Restricting Request Types:
To manage access effectively, you can restrict certain request types so that only designated individuals can raise them. Users without access won't see these request types as options, even when searching. This restriction also applies to admins and agents unless they are explicitly granted access.
Channel-Specific Restrictions:
It's important to note that restricted request types can't be raised through email, chat, widgets, or the virtual agent. These channels must remain open for anonymous user requests, meaning restricted request types won't appear to anyone through these means.
Impact on Automation and Apps:
Automation tools, change management processes, and apps like Connect and Forge that operate with app users do not have access to restricted request types. Admins must explicitly add the app user or the atlassian-addons-admin group to the list of permitted users to bypass these restrictions.
How to Add Restrictions to a Request Type:
- Go to your service project and navigate to Project settings, then Request types.
- Select the request type you want to restrict.
- Click the lock icon ().
- Add the users or groups you wish to grant access.
- Click Apply to save the changes.
How to Remove Restrictions from a Request Type:
- Go to your service project and navigate to Project settings, then Request types.
- Select the request type you want to modify.
- Click the lock icon ().
- Click Remove next to the users or groups you no longer want to have access.
- Click Apply to save the changes.
By following these steps, you can efficiently control who can raise specific requests in your service project, ensuring that sensitive or critical request types are handled by the right people.
