Elevate Your Jira Experience: Introducing Linked Issues on Jira Boards
Bringing Visibility to Dependencies and Related Work
Atlassian has announced a transformative update for Jira users: a new feature that allows viewing dependencies and related work directly on your Jira board. This feature is now available in both software and business projects, unifying Jira Software and Jira Work Management under a single license.
Why This Matters
No matter the role — be it in product development, marketing, or any other team — understanding how tasks are interconnected and identifying potential blockers is crucial. With these enhancements, users can now:
- Identify related tasks to better execute their own.
- Recognize blockers that could impede progress.
- Maintain a single source of truth for all work related to a task.
In the evolving landscape of remote work, there has been a significant shift towards asynchronous communication. Synchronous interactions have decreased, while asynchronous communication has seen a 50% increase. This feature aims to streamline team collaboration and improve productivity by addressing these challenges.
Key Features of Linked Issues
-
Contextual Issue Links: Users can easily skim dependencies and related work to enhance team standups and planning. Important fields for linked issues, such as issue type and status, are also visible.
-
Effortless Issue Linking: The 3-dot menu or right-click context menu on each card allows quick linking of new issues and specification of their relationships (e.g., "blocking," "related to," "cloning").
-
Universal Accessibility: This feature is available to all Jira users, regardless of project type, management style, or license. It also supports links across Jira Service Management and Jira Product Discovery issues for comprehensive clarity.
-
User-Controlled Activation: By default, linked issues are only visible to individual users. This feature can be activated through the board’s View Settings.
