Exciting Updates to Issue Security in Jira Service Management
Atlassian is rolling out a new default issue security scheme for company-managed service projects in Jira Service Management, designed to make managing issue-level security faster and more straightforward. Here's what this means for you and how it fits into the broader use of issue security schemes.
What’s New?
-
Preconfigured Default Scheme:
- Every new company-managed service project created with a project template will now come with a default issue security scheme. This eliminates the need for admins to create a scheme from scratch.
- The scheme includes two preconfigured security levels:
- Sensitive cases: Only visible to the assignee and reporter, ideal for HR or highly confidential cases.
- Service desk team: Accessible to the reporter, service desk team, assignee, project lead, and project admins for less critical cases like queries or leave requests.
-
Simplified Setup:
- Admins can associate the default scheme with existing projects, reducing setup time and ensuring consistency across projects.
-
Customization Options:
- While the default scheme offers a great starting point, admins can tailor the levels or add new ones to meet specific team needs.
Benefits of the New Feature
- Streamlined Implementation: New projects are ready to use with a security scheme, saving time and effort during setup.
- Flexibility: Customize security levels to align with organizations specific privacy requirements.
- Enhanced Privacy: Secure sensitive data with a few clicks, ensuring only authorized individuals have access.
How to Use It
-
Creating a New Project:
- When creating a new company-managed service project, the default issue security scheme will be automatically associated.
- Only Jira admins can view and configure this scheme via Settings > Issues > Issue security schemes.
-
Updating Existing Projects:
- To apply the new scheme to an existing project, navigate to Project settings > Access > Issue security, then associate the scheme from the dropdown.
-
Customization:
- Modify the preconfigured levels or add new ones to reflect the unique needs of your team.
Why This Matters
This update represents a significant step in simplifying access control in Jira Service Management. It lowers the barrier for admins to adopt issue security, ensuring teams can secure sensitive information quickly without needing advanced configurations.
