One of the missions of the big data research lab is to develop interdisciplinary research, advance our knowledge on human decision-making, produce scientific findings that are both of interests to academia and practice. We break the boundaries of disciplinary boxes, combine insights gleaned from economics, psychology, and sociology, apply quantitative methods to investigate questions that are of fundamental importance in social science research.
In one of our current studies, we look at behavioral heterogeneity in laboratory social dilemma experiments, use machine learning techniques to reveal different strategy patterns among the population. Results from this study can help academic researchers to build an agent-based model with more reliable assumptions; These results also provide policy implications to improve the level of cooperation, as well as total social welfare, in society. Other research topics include the interaction between human and artificial intelligence under incomplete information, risky decision-making under uncertainty, and applications of cognitive science.
