Waterloo Content Management System (WCMS) 3 | Project update
Core development of WCMS 3 is progressing well. Parity with WCMS 2 FDSU (standard website theme) websites is set for mid-May 2022, give or take a development sprint. This means we'll be in a good place to migration more complex WCMS 2 websites to WCMS 3 over the summer months.
Though unplanned circumstances may result in adjustments to our schedule, features and functionality will roll out between versions 3.1.5 and 3.1.9 as detailed in the image below.
Update on migrations
Earlier in this project, 675 WCMS 2 websites were thought to be eligible to migrate to WCMS 3. This first wave of sites were in the standard FDSU theme and had no website customizations. The number of eligible sites was reduced to 629 as 46 sites were identified as having unique circumstances that require management on a case-by-case basis.
Approximately 400 of the 629 websites have migrated to WCMS 3. The remaining sites, plotted in the schedule below, will be eligible for migration as the above features and functionality are released.
Pausing migrations between terms
The WCMS team will begin to implement WCMS 3 migration blackout periods in between terms to allow for adequate onboarding and offboarding of new WCMS co-op staff. The first blackout period will take place between Monday, April 18 and Monday, May 9, 2022. While websites will not be migrated to WCMS 3 during the blackout period, you may still request a new WCMS 3 website to be built within your area/faculty, or arrange training for area/faculty co-op staff during WCMS co-op onboarding period.
