On May 23rd, the Canadian Coastal Resilience Forum (CCRF) hosted a webinar titled "Flood risk governance in a changing climate". This is the CCRF's first webinar of the year and it is a part of a Climate Change and Policy series.
CCRF Lead and professor Jason Thistlethwaite and professor Daniel Henstra spoke about the impacts that floods have on Canadian communities and how governments are reacting to this problem.
Jason and Daniel discussed why there is a need for innovation in how Canada deals with flooding and identified a number of policy tools to achieve better results.
For example, Jason described the stormwater charge as a policy tool available to municipalities. The stormwater charge is being implemented by municipalities across Canada to collect funds needed to upgrade stormwater infrastructure in order to reduce flood risk.
