HAYLOOK: AN INTEGRATED INTERFACE FOR GAMEPLAY STATISTICS ON THE XBOX APP

Halo 5: Guardians is a first-person shooter video game developed by 343 Industries and published by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox One gaming console. Currently, players access third-party websites to obtain personal and professional gameplay statistics. Using data analytics and visualization, we create an interface within the Xbox App that intuitively displays relevant statistics in one place. Features include accessing friends’, peers’ or users’ own gameplay statistics and relative performance. The aim is to satisfy users’ Xbox-related needs within the Microsoft ecosystem.

INSTOCK: HELPING ROOMMATES SHARE FAIR

Managing the purchase of basic groceries and other household items in shared student accommodations can be difficult.  There is a need for a simple application to share responsibilities and costs associated with making these purchases. InStock is an Android application that provides a comprehensible user interface for housemates to track both shared and individual grocery items, allowing users to set a reward for each item as incentive for others to purchase it. The design decreases the likelihood of item stockouts and reduces tensions between housemates by ensuring that grocery consumption is fair.

END-TO-END ANALYTICS: CANCER CARE ONTARIO MRI WAIT TIME ANALYSIS

Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) advises the provincial government on cancer systems, renal systems, and access to healthcare. It drives continuous improvement in many areas including disease prevention and screening. Currently, there is no defined method for hospitals to manage the scheduling of patient appointments for MRI diagnostic screening, resulting in delayed diagnosis and care. Our project improves patient scheduling by performing end-to-end analytics on historical patient data, providing an innovative scheduling policy specific to each hospital’s complex needs.

TROVE: BRIDGING ACADEMIC TALENTS AND REALISTIC PROBLEMS TO BOOST INNOVATION

The capstone project is a critical component of university education, however, it can be difficult for students to find a project that is original, innovative, and solves a real problem that interests the entire group. Trove is an application that connects companies and fourth-year students, facilitating the match-up process by taking into account student and client preferences. Potential graduates can gain skills that employers seek, and organizations can complete projects by working with students who bring unique perspectives and innovative solutions.

IMPROVING INVENTORY MANAGEMENT PROCESSES AT PWO

PWO Canada is a designer and manufacturer of metal-based automotive components. The facility houses an inventory of indirect parts that are vital to manufacturing final products. There exists a discrepancy between the physical inventory and inventory displayed on their business system, resulting in large inefficiencies. This project minimizes these inconsistencies by improving the inventory management system of indirect parts. To achieve higher productivity and reduce inventory costs, the team applies data analysis, time studies and a combination of concepts from lean manufacturing and 5S.

DATA-DRIVEN GROWTH AND STRATEGY FOR THE STIGMA APP

Stigma is the highest rated mood journaling app in the App Store. Stigma Inc.’s business need is to increase user retention and premium account conversion. Since its initial release in 2015, new features including visualizations and a social platform have been added. We use data analytics to categorize users and identify which features of the app they respond to. Overall, our team will deliver data-driven recommendations for future initiatives to boost engagement, conversion and growth.

SWAPP: SIMPLIFYING MULTIDIRECTIONAL TRADES

Exchanges of goods are traditionally either bi-directional (between two trading parties) or facilitated with the use of a market making tool, such as money. Designing for markets that allow for multidirectional exchanges (between three or more parties) creates significant efficiencies, and results in more satisfied trading parties, especially in non-monetary markets. However, due to their combinatory nature, multidirectional trades are difficult to find manually as the user base scales. Using hospital shifts as a proof of concept, Swapp applies a cycle-finding algorithm to facilitate multidirectional exchanges.

RAPIDPLAN: AUTOMATED SCHEDULING SYSTEM FOR RAPID GEAR MANUFACTURING

Rapid Gear designs and manufactures gears, gear boxes, and special purpose machinery using over 50 machines, with roughly 200 different parts being manufactured simultaneously. With frequent rush orders being placed, manual scheduling is no longer feasible. RapidPlan’s solution automates scheduling of jobs using historical data on job duration, queuing and lag time, and number of operators. This solution facilitates revision of production schedules due to priority orders and takes the guesswork out of completion times, allowing Rapid Gear to promise more accurate delivery dates to customers.

SITESTATUS: KEEPING CONTRACTORS AND PROJECT MANAGERS IN SYNC

SiteStatus is an easy-to-use web and mobile application that allows Construction Project Managers to centralize status updates from various contractors across many projects. Here’s how it works: directly from their mobile devices contractors provide daily status updates which Project Managers then receive through the app. SiteStatus allows busy Project Managers to keep track of multiple sites within one centralized system. With all of their project updates in one location, Project Managers can now make well-informed decisions faster and get the most out of their work day.

FOUND: HELPING YOU EXPLORE WITH LOCATION BASED NOTIFICATIONS

Found is a mobile application that tackles the difficulties associated with travel by lessening the need for guided tours and prior research. Using location services, it can seamlessly integrate into a busy lifestyle by notifying the user when potential points of interest are in their vicinity. Found provides constantly evolving lists of crowdsourced landmarks in order to help users safely and effectively navigate through new areas. Users are also provided with insights, which are suggested, ranked and managed by the community.

MYCASHGOALS: REMOVING BARRIERS TO FINANCIAL INCLUSION IN TANZANIA

There are over 2.5 billion financially-excluded adults globally, over 1 billion of which are illiterate and innumerate. This widespread illiteracy and innumeracy in much of the developing world poses challenges for communities to access financial services. Working with My Oral Village, we are developing mobile-based tools to assist these adults with future cash planning. MyCashGoals aims to leverage their understanding of cash to allow them to input numbers accurately and plan for the future in cash without advanced numeracy skills.

ACCURATELY QUOTING ETA TIME FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE

Canadian Automobile Association South Central Ontario (CAASCO) is the largest member-based provider for roadside assistance in Canada.  Currently, CAASCO does not have an effective algorithm that accurately quotes estimated time of arrivals (ETA). Providing members with accurate ETA times increases their satisfaction with the service for which they are provided. We implement a sophisticated ETA algorithm using a combination of management engineering techniques such as modelling, scheduling and data analytics to achieve CAASCO’s goal of being accurate 80% of the time.
