About Dominic Barton

The Dominic Barton Legacy

The University of Waterloo’s prominence on the international map is not just a testament to our relentless pursuit of excellence, but also to the champions who believe in our vision and potential. Dominic Barton is one such champion who stands as an embodiment of global insight with a commitment to inclusivity and a personal commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.

As a two-term Chancellor of the University of Waterloo (July 2018 - July 2024), his dedication to our University has accompanied him around the world. With an unyielding belief in the potential of every individual, he has supported and amplified our ability to develop a global network of influential professionals, entrepreneurs, artists, community builders, researchers and international leaders to the broader world.

With Dominic’s insights and advocacy, our global reputation has soared. His contributions have cultivated relationships, ignited collaborations and drawn attention from the worldwide academic and business spheres, enhancing our status as a leading global university. We are especially grateful for Dominic's support of our work in advancing the goals of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, as we develop a long-term vision for the University aimed at solving humanity’s greatest challenges.

Dominic Barton has embodied genuine commitment to reconciliation and has contributed greatly to the Office of Indigenous Relations’ efforts to bring decolonization, indigenization and reconciliation to the University. We appreciate Dominic and all who are supporting this event and making a lasting impact for current and future Indigenous students.
