Jozsef Gaspar

Former PhD Student

I graduated my BSc degree with distinction in the Chemical and Biochemical Process Engineering program at the Babes-Bolyai University in 2010. Then I pursued an MSc degree in Advanced Process Control at the same university. My bachelor and my master thesis focused on post-combustion CO2 capture dynamic modelling and sensitivity study with uncertainty quantification of mass transfer and hydraulic models. This work was rewarded as one of the most cited articles in Computers and Chemical Engineering Journal during 2010-2012. At present, I am enrolled as a PhD student at Technical University of Denmark. I am actively participating in the OCTAVIUS (Optimization of CO2 Capture Technology Allowing Verification and Implementation at Utility Scale) project. My research mainly focuses on model developments and process optimization using innovative solvents. Lately, I have been working on dynamic modelling and control structures evaluation. For this reason, I joined Dr. Luis’ group as a visiting PhD student in 2015. In this project, we propose to implement and evaluate a decentralized and a centralized control structure for CO2 post-combustion capture. We will use in-house dynamic models combined with Aspen Dynamics and Matlab built-in tools. The main focus is to evaluate the flexibility and controllability of a post-combustion plant using the innovative PZ solvent and to compare it to the base case MEA solvent. The respective publications of this project is available in here.
