As per our Graduate Student Association constitution, this term we will be holding the Annual General Meeting (AGM) that is open to all graduate students in the department of chemistry. At this meeting we will be holding the election for the departmental GSA officers (see constitution), voting on amendments to the constitution, and voting on sweater designs for our Department of Chemistry sweater. The date of the AGM will be October 4th from 5-6 pm in C2-361. If you’re interested in attending but have a scheduling conflict, please let us know at CGSS@uwaterloo.ca.
CGSA Elections
Current roles in the constitution are described below (see constitution for full description). Any roles that are filled at this time CAN BE NOMINATED but the transition will occur in the Winter term. Any vacant roles can be filled immediately, providing a majority vote at the AGM. You may hold up to two positions outside of the executive (president, vice-president, treasurer). If you wish to be in the running for any of these listed roles, then nominate yourself by sending an email to CGSS@uwaterloo.ca.
- President (Filled): Schedule meetings and events, delegate tasks to all officers and fill-in as needed, serve as a liaison between the department of chemistry faculty, the graduate student association, and the graduate student body, etc.
- Vice-President (Filled): Serve along with the President to address issues stated above and assume duties upon absence of President.
- Treasurer (Filled): Serve on the executive alongside President and Vice-President, maintain funds, record all transactions in a detailed report, propose fundraising events as needed, etc.
- Social Representative (2/3 Filled): Promote events, participate in fundraising, engage with student body, etc.
- Safety Representative (1/3 Filled): Serve as a liaison between the student body and the safety office.
- International Student Representative (0/3 Filled): Serve as a liaison between the international student body and the department of chemistry.
- Member at Large (any #): Participate in planning, organizing, and preparation of events.
Newly proposed roles can be found below, and their integration into the constitution will be voted on at the AGM before they are official. If the majority vote goes through, these roles can be filled immediately after the AGM as they are vacant. If you wish to be in the running for any of these listed roles, then nominate yourself by sending an email to CGSS@uwaterloo.ca.
- Secretary (Vacant): Serve on the executive alongside President and Vice-President, record and distribute meeting minutes, keep record of all necessary documentation, assist treasurer in keeping financial records.
- Graduate TA Representative (Vacant): Serving as a liaison between the graduate student body and the Associate Chair of Graduate Studies.
- EDI Representative (0/2 Filled): Represent the graduate students in the GWC2 EDI-I committee/ departmental EDI committee, planning CGSS events that promote EDI (1/term), liaison for graduate students expressing EDI concerns.
