Prospective students

See my current and past research projects. I am looking for highly-motivated students for a variety of research projects. Some projects are technical and involve tool development, while others blend Geographic Information Science (GIScience) with human geography. I offer a supportive and dynamic environment for conducting research, and place a priority on co-publication and networking at academic conferences.

If you are interested in working with me, please read the following before emailing:

For undergraduate students

I am always interested in supervising independent studies or honours research. I am also looking for excellent students to be a part of my research team as volunteer or possibly paid research assistants on a part-time or full-time basis. Please contact me to further discuss these opportunities, keeping in mind that there must be a connection with my research interests.

For prospective graduate students

Please send me an email that covers the following items:

  • Admission. Please visit the Waterloo-Laurier Graduate Program in Geography website to ensure that you meet the current academic requirements for admission. Send me an unofficial transcript of all your undergraduate or graduate grades.
  • Your research interest. It is important to me that you are studying something that you are interested in. It is also important that you are familiar with my research and what my students do. In your email, describe what topics get you excited, or even better, specific ideas that you have for a research project.
  • Funding. Do you plan to apply for funding to support your research? My ability to offer funding varies depending on the project. In general, the closer your research interests match the projects described above, the better the chances of funding.
  • If you have any relevant work, volunteer, or life experience, please describe it. This can help me to get to know you a bit better and also to properly evaluate your fit as a graduate student.

I look forward to hearing from you!
