Advancing climate education and training

Group of students in audience

As the climate crisis accelerates, Canada faces serious skills and capacity gaps to both manage the risks of climate change and seize the opportunities of the low-carbon transition. Building from the University of Waterloo’s long-standing strengths in climate education and research, the Climate Institute is focused on meeting the growing, urgent demand across Canada for skilled professionals who can lead through climate disruption—in government, in business, in public health, engineering, planning, finance, and more. The Institute supports the expansion of climate change and sustainability education in both formal and informal education systems. We are working to support educators with information, tools and strategies to integrate climate education into the curriculum at all levels and across all disciplines. At the same time, we’re leveraging Waterloo’s expertise to develop targeted professional development opportunities to enhance climate literacy and skills in the workplace.
