Climate pedagogy is the art and science of teaching for climate hope and agency.

This approach is relevant across all disciplines! As students navigate a range of climate-related emotions, instructors play an important role in supporting them, fostering hope and agency grounded in critical and systems thinking, research and real-world action.

Join the Waterloo Climate Institute and partners for a hands-on, interdisciplinary workshop exploring the what, why and how of climate pedagogy and climate emotions. Participants will engage in interactive activities and consider ways to help students connect with nature, with one another and with community climate action efforts.

No previous experience is required. Faculty members, education support staff, and sessional instructors from all disciplines are welcome. Light refreshments will be provided.  Space is limited—please register in advance.

Partners: Waterloo Climate Institute, Wilfrid Laurier University, English Department, Integrated Teaching Support Unit (CTE), Faculty of Environment, Ideas Clinic (Engineering).

Target Audience: Instructors from any discipline as well as education support staff.

Facilitators: Michèle Martin, Jennifer Dobai and Jennifer Clary-Lemon and other members of the Teach Like the Planet Depends on It project working group.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Deepen understanding of climate emotions and their role in teaching and learning.

  1. Identify, adapt and design resources and activities aligned with climate pedagogy principles.

  1. Begin integrating climate pedagogy practices into teaching.

This event is part of the Teach Like the Planet Depends on It workshop series.
