The Faculty of Environment and IC3 would like to welcome Shawna Peddle as the new Director of Partners for Action (P4A).
P4A is an applied research network working to advance flood resiliency in Canada in the face of a changing climate. Based in the Faculty of Environment, its two founding partners are The Co-operators and Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan.
As director of P4A Peddle will collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders from academia, business, government and non-governmental organizations to create and share knowledge, address information needs and catalyze actions that will protect Canadians from the risks of flooding.
“I am thrilled to be joining Environment at Waterloo as director of Partners for Action,” said Peddle. “The Co-operators and Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan recognize the critical importance of risk proofing our communities in the face of climate change. Drawing on the applied research specialties of Environment, we’ll come up with collaborative solutions to address an important unmet need in our communities – our lack of resiliency when it comes to flooding.”
Peddle comes to us from Stantec where she worked as a senior project manager in their assessment, permitting, and compliance group.
She has more than 15 years of experience managing and undertaking federal and provincial environmental assessments in the energy, water and waste, transportation, mining, and industrial sectors. She developed and implemented dozens of public and Aboriginal consultation programs, and has facilitated workshops and Community Liaison Committees involving numerous diverse stakeholders.
Recently, Peddle focused on the Renewable Energy Approval (REA) process, managing REA applications for more than 15 wind projects in Ontario. This experience has contributed to a reassessment of how we consult the energy sector about developing positive relationships with neighbours and regulators.
Peddle holds a B.Sc. (Honours Biology and English) from the Memorial University of Newfoundland, and an M.Sc.F. (Forestry) from the University of Toronto. She has also received a Certificate in Environmental Management from Lakehead University, and a Certificate in Public Participation from the International Association for Public participation (IAP2).
